State-Designated Enterprise Zone
This special designation primarily benefits businesses that elect to use
the New Jobs / Investment Tax Credit incentive mentioned under Option 2 in
Incentives. Rather than a $500 per employee or 1% of depreciable property
rule, businesses at MidAmerica can double the credit to $1,000 per employee
or 2%, whichever is greater.
Foreign Trade Zone
MidAmerica is FTZ #53, Site 2. Companies utilize foreign trade zones to reduce operating costs associated with a US location. These operating cost savings helps maintain cost competitiveness in its US based operations. Operating cost reductions or savings are mainly associated with duty or tariff elimination, reductions or deferrals and reductions in merchandise processing fees / entry fees. Changes in 2000 regarding merchandise processing fees / entry fees have now made "big box" distribution centers prime candidates as FTZ users. A company must activate an area within the FTZ before any benefits can be achieved.

For additional information about the advantages of operating in a foreign trade zone, please visit the Foreign Trade Zone Board, US Customs, or check the "FTZ Benefits" box via our Express Request email service.
