Employment
According to the 2008 County Business Pattern data manufacturing continues to be the single largest sector of the economy in the county employing over 3,500 people with estimated annual payroll exceeding $155 million. Retail, accommodations (food service), health care and construction services follow, respectively. Retail Sales
According Bureau of Labor and ESRI statistics, as published in ESRI's Market Profile for 2010, sales on retail goods within a 20 mile radius of MidAmerica was $773 million in 2006/2007. Sales increased to over $7.7 billion in a 40 mile radius.
