Population
MidAmerica is located in Mayes County, Oklahoma and between the communities of Pryor and Chouteau. Tulsa is located just 40 minutes west. The primary workforce for MidAmerica industries comes from 20 to 30 mile radius. This radius includes the counties of Mayes, Rogers, Craig, Delaware, Cherokee and Wagoner. Employment
From 1990 to 2005 employment in Mayes County increased from 6,797 to 8,823 according to data from the 2005 County Business Pattern. Manufacturing continues to be the single largest sector of the economy in the county employing 2,700 people. It is estimated that 90% of these jobs are at MidAmerica. Retail, accommodations (food service), health care and construction services follow, respectively. It should be noted that county business pattern data excludes self-employed, employee, if private household, railroad employees, agricultural production, most government and federally chartered savings and hospitals. Economic Census - Manufacturing
Comparatively speaking, the manufacturing sector in Mayes County performed much better than Oklahoma and the nation from 1992 to 1997. Prior year comparisons are extremely difficult because of the change from SIC to NAICS codes. From 1997 to 2002 manufacturing sales and receipts (value of shipments) in Mayes County increased from $731 million to $748 million or an increase of 2.3% while employment decreased from 3,357 to 2,871 or a decrease of 14.5%. Effective Buying Income & Retail Sales
According to the 2005 Survey of Buying, effective buying income (EBI) for Mayes County was $553,583 million and increase of 4.13% over the prior year. Also, EBI for the State of Oklahoma increased by 4.75% from $54,208,506 billion to $56,784,731 during the same period. As a percent of the state total, Mayes County continues to hold its position with the state at approximately .975%.
According to the same survey, retail sales in Mayes County increased by 16.9% over the prior year from $617,238 million to $721,584 million. However, on the state level the increase was only 6.8% increasing from $42,368,893 billion to $45,251,428 billion.
